In a contribution to the Church of Sweden’s publication “150 Years of International Engagement,” World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay celebrates the church’s vital legacy and reflects on its evolving character.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) hosted Bishop Dr Jukka Keskitalo and Rev. Pekka Mustakallio from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, to discuss the ecumenical agenda of 2023 and the harvesting of the WCC 11 th assembly, as well a group from the Centre for Ecumenism of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau, and 21 ordinands from the Church of Sweden.

La présence du Conseil œcuménique des Églises dans la salle d’exposition du Kirchentag, le «Marché des possibles», (hall 9, stand 9-C32) permet des rencontres dynamiques et donne la possibilité d’en apprendre davantage sur le mouvement œcuménique.

With the topics of the war in Ukraine and climate protection as the focal points, the 38th German Protestant Kirchentag takes place in Nuremberg, Germany from 7 to 11 June. The World Council of Churches’ presence in the Kirchentag’s exhibition space “Market of Opportunities” (hall 9, stand 9-C32) enables lively encounters and an opportunity to learn more about the ecumenical movement.

Participating in a Ökumenetag (ecumenical day) in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 22 April, former World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Fr Ioan Sauca reflected back on the WCC 11th Assembly, and expressed deep gratitude to the host churches.

«Nos deux Églises partagent plus de 200 ans d’histoire en Europe et aux États-Unis. Cet accord de pleine communion est un signe supplémentaire de la communauté bien-aimée dont nous avons tant besoin de nos jours. Notre partenariat répond à l’enjeu des changements climatiques, soutient les réfugié-e-s et la justice raciale nous engage encore davantage à participer aux efforts œcuméniques mondiaux», déclare le révérend Michael Curry, évêque président et primat de l’Église épiscopale.

“Our two churches have more than 200 years of shared history in Europe and the United States. This full-communion agreement is one more sign of the beloved community that we so need in these times. Our partnership in addressing the challenges of climate change, supporting refugees, and racial justice binds us even more deeply to worldwide ecumenical efforts,” said Most Rev. Michael Curry, presiding bishop and primate of The Episcopal Church. 

Le père Ioan Sauca, secrétaire général par intérim du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), a adressé une lettre de remerciements à l’archevêque Antje Jackelén, primat de l’Église de Suède, pour le travail qu’elle a accompli tout au long de son mandat.

Peace prayers and a concert in South Korea on 27 July marked the lead-up to World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly while expressing the fervent hope for the reunification of the Korean Peninsula.

The Fifth International Conference on Receptive Ecumenism was held in Sigtuna, Sweden on 27-30 June, exploring the theme “Transforming Ecumenism – listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.” (Rev 2:7)

La prèsidente du comité central du COE ,  Dr Agnes Abuom, a participé au 102e Katholikentag (Congrès catholique) à Stuttgart cette semaine, l'événement étant placé sous le thème "Partager la vie".
