Más de 600 personas asistieron al 9º Simposio anual sobre el papel de la religión y las organizaciones religiosas en los asuntos internacionales, celebrado en línea el 24 de enero. More than 600 people attended the Ninth Annual Symposium on the Role of Religion and Faith-based Organizations in International Affairs, held online on 24 January. Exploring the theme “Securing People’s Wellbeing and Planetary Sustainability,” the symposium was organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and a coalition of faith-based and UN partners. The event featured UN officials, representatives of international faith-based organizations, and other experts on climate change, disarmament, and other relevant topics.

Mehr als 600 Menschen haben am 9. Jährlichen Symposium über die Rolle von Religion und Organisationen, die aus dem Glauben heraus handeln, in internationalen Angelegenheiten teilgenommen, das am 24. Januar stattgefunden hat. Plus de 600 personnes ont assisté au Neuvième symposium annuel sur le Rôle de la religion et des organisations confessionnelles dans les affaires internationales qui s’est déroulé en ligne le 24 janvier. Ce symposium, qui avait pour thème «Assurer le bien-être des populations et la durabilité planétaire», était organisé par le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) et une coalition de partenaires confessionnels et des Nations unies. Des responsables des Nations unies, des représentant-e-s d’organisations confessionnelles internationales et d’autres experts sur les changements climatiques, le désarmement et d’autres sujets essentiels y ont pris part.

An interfaith panel discussion on climate, held 21 September, sent a clear message to the world’s governments: a social and spiritual transformation must underpin policies that care for the earth and the most vulnerable people living on it.

Declaring that “there is no justification in either faith or science for the racism, xenophobia and discrimination that we are witnessing in the world,” the leadership of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee adopted a public statement that condemns these social forces.

The statement was prepared by the Public Issues Committee at the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany.
