The theme for the fourth International Youth Day commemoration and toolkit, Indigenous Peoples and Land Rights Activism, arose out of several recommendations from young people within and outside WCC networks as one of the pressing issues that young people would like to explore.

This toolkit provides background information, resources and guidelines for advocacy by young people.

The WCC programmes on Youth Engagement in the Ecumenical Movement and the Ecumenical Indigenous Peoples (IP) Network, through its IP Youth network, have collaborated on this year’s focus.

GETI 2022 at the 11th WCC Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, is the third instalment in the succession of WCC Global Ecumenical Theological Institutes (GETIs) under the auspices of the Ecumenical Theological Education (ETE) programme.

Christ’s Love (Re)moves Borders: An Ecumenical Reader as the study guide for GETI2022 brings together scripture, theology, and social science into a single compilation to facilitate intercultural academic study, ecumenical learning and sharing. Derived from the WCC 11th Assembly theme, “Christ’s Love Moves the World to Reconciliation and Unity”, the GETI2022 theme locates love and reconciliation at the heart of the gospel.

GETI brings together young and emerging ecumenical theologians and educators from a broad spectrum of Christian traditions and all eight regions of the WCC to engage with one another on current critical theological themes. The GETI2022 Reader is a key resource compilation to enable participants to: • Strengthen knowledge of current local and global ecumenical themes. • Engage with past, present and future issues in ecumenical discourse. • Utilize interdisciplinary approaches for ecumenical studies. • Express a theologically informed and contextually grounded ecumenical theology. • Seek constructive solutions for challenges in changing religious and societal landscapes.

This second publication of biblical reflections on statelessness presents new perspectives, including indigenous voices and reflections on the meaning of land. These texts can be valuable tools for discussion and reflection during Bible studies in congregations and communities around the world.

En 2013, el CMI adoptó una declaración conjunta, “Poner a los niños en el centro”, y se asoció con UNICEF para desarrollar la capacidad de sus iglesias miembros y asociados ecuménicos para (1) proteger a la niñez y la adolescencia y (2) promover la participación significativa de la niñez y (3) su compromiso en las iniciativas de justicia climática.

UNICEF se asoció al CMI para fortalecer su compromiso efectivo con los actores religiosos para mejorar el bienestar de la niñez. Im Jahr 2013 verabschiedete der ÖRK die gemeinsame Erklärung “Kinder in den Mittelpunkt stellen” und formte eine Partnerschaf mit UNICEF, um seine Mitgliedskirchen und ökumenischen Partner in die Lage zu versetzen, um (1) Kinder und Jugendliche zu schützen, (2) die bedeutungsvolle Beteiligung von Kindern zu fördern und (3) sich für Klimagerechtigkeit zu engagieren.

UNICEF ging diese Partnerschaft ein, um seine effektive Arbeit mit Vertretern von Religionen weiter zu verstärken und so das Kindeswohl zu fördern. En 2013, le COE a adopté une déclaration commune, « Placer l’enfant au centre », et il s’est associé à l’UNICEF pour renforcer les capacités de ses Églises membres et de ses partenaires oecuméniques dans les domaines : 1) de la protection des enfants et des adolescents, 2) de la promotion d’une participation significative des enfants et 3) de la mobilisation des enfants pour des initiatives de justice climatique.

L’UNICEF a conclu ce partenariat pour améliorer le bien-être des enfants en resserrant ses liens avec les acteurs religieux. En effet, ceux-ci peuvent aider les enfants les plus vulnérables, et ils possèdent souvent la confiance, l’influence morale et les moyens nécessaires pour agir. In 2013, the WCC adopted a joint declaration, “Putting Children at the Centre,” and partnered with UNICEF to build the capacity of its member churches and ecumenical partners to (1) protect children and adolescents, and (2) promote children's meaningful participation, and (3) their engagement in climate justice initiatives.

UNICEF entered this partnership to further strengthen their effective engagement with religious actors to improve the well-being of children. Religious actors can reach the most vulnerable children, and often have the trust, moral influence, and capacity to do so. Through this partnership, larger numbers of locally connected, grassroot partners can be reached.

This publication highlights key activities and achievements from 2015 to 2021.

The World Council of Churches provides this toolkit as a resource for the fellowship to plan and organize unique celebrations of Ecumenical International Youth Day 2021. It includes background information and a description of this year’s theme, climate justice, tools and resources and a suggested programme format to use and adapt in local contexts.
