The ecumenical Eglise verte (Green church) movement in France held its first assembly of local groups and churches on World Environment Day, 5 June.

Un colloque en ligne de trois jours, du 11 au 13 février, organisé par le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) et le Séminaire œcuménique et francophone de théologie de l’écologie, a rassemblé des personnalités autour du thème «Penser les relations écologiques à l’ère de l’anthropocène».

A three-day online conference organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Ecumenical and Francophone Seminar on Theology of Ecology, 11-13 February, gathered voices to reflect on the theme “Rethinking Ecological Relationships in the Anthropocene Era.”

März eine historische gemeinsame pastorale Erklärung veröffentlicht, in der sie betonen, wie wichtig und dringend notwendig es ist, solidarisch zu sein und zusammenzustehen, um angesichts der COVID-19-Pandemie Leben zu schützen. Darauffolgend hat der ÖRK Standpunkte und Sichtweisen aus verschiedenen Regionen in Bezug auf die Frage zusammengetragen, wie wichtig es in der aktuellen Situation ist, dass wir alle Sorge tragen für unsere eine Menschheitsfamilie.

On 26 March, the WCC and Regional Ecumenical Organizations released a historic joint pastoral statement affirming the urgency of standing together to protect life amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The WCC has since been gathering viewpoints from diverse regions about the importance of taking care of our one human family.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) was represented at a gathering of more than 40 organizations from across Europe involved in the Blue Community initiative. Blue Communities, a concept founded by the Council of Canadians and the Blue Planet Project, recognize water and sanitation as human rights, promote public control over water resources and ban or phase out the sale of bottled water in public facilities and at events.

The World Water Council (WWC) held its 8th General Assembly 29 November – 1 December, in Marseille, France. In an interview for WCC Communication, Dinesh Suna, coordinator of the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN) expressed discontent over the lack of opportunities for participation of the civil society in the structure and work of the WWC.

Dr Cecile De Sweemer, who served as staff of the Christian Medical Commission of the World Council of Churches (WCC) from 1982 to 1986, died on the 27 November in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). De Sweemer, a Belgian medical doctor with a doctorate in International Health from Johns Hopkins University, with extensive experience in Asia and Africa, was a dedicated and compassionate physician.

The Council of Christian Churches in France (CÉCEF) is encouraging local churches to support a recently created Green Church environmental certification label, asking that offerings made at ecumenical services during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity go to help finance the initiative.
