Over 20 faith leaders, with youth, political and civil society representatives sat down for a unique lunch at COP21 at a table with knives and forks but no food, in a public demonstration of their hunger for climate justice. The stunt was part of the Fast for the Climate initiatives on December 1st in Paris.

Líderes religiosos –junto a representantes de la juventud, de la política y de la sociedad civil– se sentaron para tomar un almuerzo excepcional en una mesa con su servicio de cubertería completo, pero sin comida, para manifestar públicamente su hambre de justicia climática.

Plus de 20 chefs religieux réunis à la COP21 se sont assis en compagnie de jeunes et de représentants de la vie politique et civile à l’occasion d’un déjeuner bien particulier, où seuls les couteaux et fourchettes figuraient au menu, lors d’une manifestation publique destinée à montrer leur faim pour une justice climatique.

„Bisher haben wir von den Staats- und Regierungschefs in erster Linie Lippenbekenntnisse gehört. Hoffen wir, dass den vielen Worten jetzt konkrete Taten folgen“, sagte Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) anlässlich der Eröffnungsveranstaltungen des UN-Klimagipfels in Paris (COP 21) am 30. November.

“The political leaders of the world are speaking like preachers. May they continue as believers,” said the WCC general secretary at the opening of the UN climate talks in Paris.

Faith campaigners have presented a total of 1,780,528 signatures gathered worldwide calling for decisive action to curb global warming. The petitions were delivered to leaders of the United Nations COP 21 climate conference beginning its work in Paris.

Les militants religieux ont présenté un total de 1 780 528 signatures rassemblées à travers le monde pour demander une action décisive afin d’enrayer le réchauffement de la planète. Les pétitions ont été remises aux responsables de la Conférence sur le climat des Nations Unies, la COP 21, qui entame son travail à Paris.

International humanitarian and development faith based networks have urged governments preparing for next week's COP21 United Nations climate summit in Paris to do their outmost to reach a fair, binding, and ambitious agreement as vulnerable people continue their daily struggle to adapt to the increasing adverse effects of climate change.

The Executive Committee of the WCC released a statement in the lead-up to the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris expressing hope that the event will achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.

El Comité Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias hizo pública una declaración en vísperas de la próxima Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático, que se celebrará en París, manifestando la esperanza de que en el acontecimiento se alcance un acuerdo universal y jurídicamente vinculante sobre el clima, con el objetivo de mantener el calentamiento del planeta por debajo de 2° C.

"In COP21 we decide whether the glass is half full or half empty, but the glass must be transparent", tweeted climate activist Yeb Saño at the end of a day full of activities engaging leadership and staff members of the WCC, the Lutheran World Federation and ACT Alliance, at the Ecumenical Centre, in Geneva, Switzerland.
