Less COVID-19 cases, more “hope cases”

The Uruguayan Council of Christian Churches (CICU, by its Spanish acronym), the only ecumenical organization in the country, hosted an online gathering during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It took place last 26 May at 7:30pm (local time) via Zoom. I had the immense joy of participating as a Catholic communicator, currently serving as correspondent for SIGNIS ALC (Latin-American and Caribbean Association of Catholic Communication) and as vice president of SIGNIS Uruguay (the Uruguayan Association of Catholic Communicators).

Du 4 au 6 mai, le séminaire international en ligne «Tragédie brésilienne : un risque pour notre maison commune?» a rassemblé des responsables religieux ainsi que des leaders des droits sociaux et humains et des experts renommés pour analyser de quelle manière le processus de déconstruction de la démocratie qui s’est opéré au Brésil ces dernières années a entraîné le pays dans de nombreuses crises.

Ein internationales Online-Seminar mit dem Titel „Die brasilianische Tragödie:  eine Gefahr für unser gemeinsames Haus?“ hat leitenden Kirchenverantwortlichen sowie Führungspersonen sozialer Gruppen und Menschenrechtsorganisationen gemeinsam mit prominenten Fachleuten während eines Online-Seminars vom 4.–6. Mai die Gelegenheit gegeben, darüber zu diskutieren, wie der Prozess der Dekonstruktion der Demokratie in Brasilien in den vergangenen Jahren das Land in mehrere Krisen gesteuert hat.

WCC podcast deals with death and dying

The new surge in COVID-19 related hospitalizations and deaths has drastically increased the need for pastoral care almost everywhere. Brazil and Great Britain are two hard-hit countries, where the pandemic has brought existential questions on the table.

An ecumenical pioneer’s book re-launched in English

In 1984 a pastor from Uruguay became the first Latin American to be elected as general secretary of the WCC. The late Emilio Castro (1927 - 2013) left an unmatched legacy of passionate ecumenism behind him. His book “Pasion y compromise con el Reino de Dios”, first published in 2007, has now been translated into English and released in an edited version.
