A new volume—“Contemporary ecotheology, climate justice and environmental stewardship in the world”—is the latest of the continued fruits of the 6th International Conference on Ecological theology and Environmental Ethics, or Ecothee, which took place in September 2019 at the Orthodox Academy of Crete in Kolymvari.

An ecumenical conference in Thessaloniki, Greece held 20-22 February explored the political, religious and spiritual dimensions of the economic and refugee crisis.

Organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC), the 5th International Conference on Ecological Theology and Environmental Ethics (ECOTHEE-17) brought together people from diverse nations and faith traditions to reflect on the theology of Oikos and indigenous spirituality.

Organisée par le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), la cinquième Conférence internationale sur la théologie écologique et l’éthique environnementale (ECOTHEE-17) a rassemblé des hommes et des femmes de nations et de traditions religieuses variées pour une réflexion sur la théologie de l’Oikos et sur la spiritualité autochtone.

The Association Internationale pour l’ Education Sociale Chretienne (AIESC), or International Association for Social Christian Teaching, held its 30th anniversary meeting at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece from 2-3 September.

“An ecological reformation of Christianity is a matter of repentance, conversion and renewal for all Christian traditions,” reads the “Volos Call,” a statement issued after a meeting of church representatives from different traditions and all continents, held in Greece, between 10-13 March.

Following the WCC/UN High Level Conference on the Refugee Crisis in Europe, which took place at the Ecumenical Centre Geneva on 18-19 January, a statement has been issued entitled "Europe’s Response to the Refuge Crisis, From Origin to Transit, Reception and Refuge, A Call for Shared Responsibility and Coordinated Action”.

As organizations worldwide intensify their work on issues of climate justice, and the clock is ticking for new climate commitments to take shape, members of the WCC Working Group on Climate Change have gathered for a four-day meeting to strategize for effective climate justice action and for strong participation of faith-based initiatives at COP21.

Dans le monde entier, des organisations intensifient leurs efforts sur les questions de justice climatique et il devient urgent de formuler de nouveaux engagements en faveur du climat. Dans ce contexte, les membres du Groupe de travail sur les changements climatiques du COE se sont réunis pendant quatre jours afin d’établir une stratégie qui permette une action efficace pour la justice climatique et une participation convaincante des initiatives d’inspiration religieuse à la Conférence des Nations Unies sur les changements climatiques, en décembre à Paris (COP21).

The increasingly influential role of the financial sector, its impact on communities and their struggles toward a just financial system remained the focus of discussions in the workshops organized by the churches at the World Social Forum.
