Une délégation œcuménique coordonnée par le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) s’est rendue en Indonésie du 15 au 22 février, visitant notamment les provinces de la Papouasie et de la Papouasie occidentale, où, selon une déclaration commune récente de cinq mandataires des Nations Unies travaillant dans le domaine des droits de la personne, les violences et les discriminations à l’encontre des populations papoues autochtones se multiplient.

WCC joins call for release of mission personnel from Philippines

The World Council of Churches (WCC) joined the Council of Bishops of the United Methodist Church (UMC) as well as United Methodist bishops in the Philippines in appealing to the government of the Philippines for assistance and cooperation in extracting three United Methodist mission personnel from the country.

Unifying faiths in peace and harmony through dialogue

In a plenary discussion titled ”Light and Truth in Pluralistic Asia” held at the Asia Ecumenical Youth Assembly (AEYA) in Manado, Indonesia last Monday, religious leaders from different faiths shared perspectives. They agreed that continuous interfaith dialogue is key to better mutual understanding, tolerance and respect.

Christian Conference of Asia gravely concerned for farmers in Philippines

The Christian Conference of Asia has condemned police brutality against farmers in Mindanao, Philippines. The CCA spoke out against “the violent response and shootings by the police on farmers in the Philippines” and expressed solidarity with the leadership of the United Methodist Church in its continuing protection of some 6,000 farmers and tribal leaders who are threatened by violence from the Philippine National Police.

Land rights focus of panel discussion

During the 4th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights, the WCC, in collaboration with the ACT Alliance and Lutheran World Federation, organized a side-event on “Faith-based organizations’ contribution to the protection of communities’ land rights: lessons learnt and good practices from Africa, Asia and Latin America” at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva.

Réunions-débats consacrées aux droits fonciers

Au cours du quatrième Forum des Nations Unies sur les entreprises et les droits de l’homme, le COE, en collaboration avec l’Alliance ACT et la Fédération luthérienne mondiale, a organisé une réunion sur le thème: «La contribution des organisations d’inspiration religieuse à la protection des droits fonciers des communautés – Leçons apprises et bonnes pratiques d’Afrique, d’Asie et d’Amérique latine».

WCC deplores attacks on Indonesian churches and Christian communities

Following the burning and demolition of church buildings and the flight of many Christians from their villages in Indonesia, the WCC general secretary has expressed the world fellowship’s support of religious liberty and its solidarity with Indonesian believers as churches assist displaced people and work toward future peace.
