The World Social Forum (WSF) 2024 is scheduled to take place from February 15-19 in Nepal. The WSF serves as an open space and platform for the convergence of a diverse range of participants, including social movements, laborers, farmers, civil society groups, marginalized communities, and those affected by the impacts of neoliberal capitalism and privatization. 

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Faith and Order will convene in Tondano, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, from 2-7 February for its first in-person meeting since being elected by the WCC central committee in June 2023.

A Global Peace Prayer on 22 March will draw Christians together into prayer and advocacy for peace, and in hope for a better future. 

In order to strengthen the voice of the churches with regards to global economics, a group of up to 20 current and future leaders representing the churches will have the opportunity to attend the GEM School.

Online event ‘Ecumenical efforts for peace on the Korean War’s 70th Anniversary’ will take place at 13.00 CEST on Monday, 22 June 2020. During the livestreamed event a Joint Ecumenical Peace Message for the 70th anniversary of the start of the Korean War will be presented.

The theme for World Environment Day, 5 June 2020 is biodiversity — a call to action to combat the accelerating species loss and degradation of the natural world. One million plant and animal species risk extinction, largely due to human activities. According to the WWF, Humanity has wiped out 60% of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles since 1970.

Public lectures and responses to reflect on racism as one of the major concerns of the ecumenical movement, to understand global manifestations of racism today, and to reaffirm the intersection of race and ethnicity with other determining characteristics.

The peace pilgrimage in Seoul will be followed by a three-day meeting with the ECHOS Commission on Youth during which commissioners will stake out plans for the WCC programme.

The pilgrimage and the ECHOS meeting will be complemented by the worldwide yearly Prayer for the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula on 11 August and the Ecumenical International Youth Day at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 12 August.

Applications are now open for YATRA (Youth in Asia Training for Religious Amity), an interreligious training programme launched by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in 2014 following its 10th Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea.

This event plans to engage 30 indigenous young people from around the world and 20 Asian young people to go deeper on the topic of racism and exchange experiences. Key reasons for gathering in Japan is to show concrete solidarity with Indigenous Communities in Japan, share stories and hear the issues that they are struggling with.

This workshop will bring together around 20 participants from Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jewish and other traditions to reflect on the concept of just transitions from faith lenses as well as to discuss the role of faiths in enabling transformation.

Para fortalecer la voz de las iglesias en lo relativo a la economía mundial, un grupo de veinte dirigentes –actuales y futuros– que representan a las iglesias tendrá la oportunidad de asistir a la Escuela Ecuménica de Gobernanza, Economía y Gestión (GEM, por sus siglas en inglés) para una Economía de Vida, en Yakarta (Indonesia), del 19 al 30 de agosto de 2019.

national and local ecumenical Indigenous networks, communities, and churches
will gather in Rotorua New Zealand.

YATRA (Youth in Asia Training for Religious Amity) is an inter-religious training programme of the WCC. The intensive training course, held annually since 2014, seeks to enable young Christian leaders from Asian churches to contribute towards the building up of just, harmonious and peaceable communities by equipping them for ministries of justice and peace from an inter-religious perspective.

In a global campaign, the World Council of Churches invites people across the globe to extend “A Light of Peace” for the Korean Peninsula and for a world free from nuclear weapons.
