Brunnen es una palabra alemana que significa pozo. El pozo es el espacio para el encuentro y el intercambio, para saciar la sed, para saludar al visitante y para acoger al extranjero. La palabra Brunnen también tiene un significado espiritual: el de un espacio que muestra la diversidad, así como la unidad existente y esperada. Es un espacio de encuentro que tiene como objetivo ampliar horizontes. Da espacio al movimiento ecuménico más amplio y a la sociedad civil. El Brunnen ofrecerá un espacio para recoger los frutos de la peregrinación y desarrollar ideas para el futuro.
Las Asambleas anteriores ofrecieron espacios similares como el Padare en Harare (1998), el Mutirão en Porto Alegre (2006) y el Madang en Busan (2013).
El Brunnen era el corazón de la Asamblea y estaba abierto desde las 11:00 hasta las 21:00 horas todos los días de la Asamblea. En la Asamblea, el programa del Brunnen era el elemento principal de lo que llamamos el programa para los participantes de la Asamblea, que se desarrolló en paralelo al programa para los delegados y a las actividades del programa de encuentro ecuménico (programa en la ciudad de Karlsruhe, principalmente para los participantes locales/regionales).
El programa del Brunnen incluía talleres, exposiciones, zonas para el intercambio y la creación de redes, y eventos paralelos. Invitábamos a los asociados ecuménicos, a las redes ecuménicas y a las iglesias miembros a proponer talleres, exposiciones o representaciones.
Los talleres eran eventos que ofrecían la oportunidad de que los participantes de la Asamblea se reunieran para debatir y explorar un tema específico. Cada taller de 90 minutos se celebrado una sola vez. Había 100 espacios disponibles para los talleres.
La zona de intercambio y creación de redes era un espacio animado y dinámico en el que los participantes se reunían en torno a varios centros ecuménicos. Estos centros eran lugares dedicados al CMI, ACT Alianza y las iglesias anfitrionas.

Los espacios para exposiciones ofrecían a los participantes de la Asamblea y al público en general la oportunidad de disfrutar de una serie de ofertas diversas de los asociados ecuménicos, las redes y los miembros del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias.
Los espacios de exposición no se limitaron a presentaciones y muestras estáticas (ensayos fotográficos, exposiciones de arte, etc.) y se invitó a incluir gran variedad de propuestas.
Los espacios de exposición debían presentar y promover la exploración de los temas y las cuestiones abordadas de forma visual, pero también alentaban a los participantes a interpretar y explorar activamente el contenido de la exposición. Debían crear una interacción entre las personas que visitan la exposición, los expositores y la propia exposición. Por último, debían promover la creación de redes y despertar el interés en torno a los temas y cuestiones tratados, además de ilustrar la colaboración con las iglesias y los asociados ecuménicos dentro de la comunidad.
