As a follow-up to the Alternative Globalization Addressing People and Earth (AGAPE) process, which concluded with the AGAPE Call presented at the WCC 9th Assembly in Porto Alegre in 2006, the WCC initiated a programme focused on eradicating poverty, challenging wealth accumulation and safeguarding ecological integrity based on the understanding that Poverty, Wealth and Ecology are integrally related. The AGAPE Call to Action is the result of a six-year process of consultations and regional studies.

Church and ecumenical leaders from Asia gathered at the Bangkok Christian Guest House in Thailand from 2 to 5 August 2011, on the invitation of the WCC and CCA, to address emerging concerns in Asia, with a thematic focus on Peace and Security in Asia: Ecumenical Responses.

The World Council of Churches, together with the Conference of European Churches and the Commission for Migrants in Europe, call for a response to the humanitarian crisis in and around Libya.

A consultation on Poverty, Wealth and Ecology in Europe organized by the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the World Council of Churches (WCC) in cooperation with churches in Hungary ended on Friday 12 November 2010 by adopting a "Budapest Call for Climate Justice".

The Joint Working Group (JWG) is the instrument that monitors and promotes collaboration between the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) and the World Council of Churches (WCC). The group, hosted by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, met in the St. Christophoros Patriarchal Monastery in Saidnaya, Syria, from 26 September to 20 October 2010.

The challenge of resettlement because of Climate Change was the focus of the Oikoumene Pasifika 2009, which took place in Nadi, Fiji in April 2009. Oikoumene Pasifika bring church leaders from the Pacific Conference of Churches to reflect together on crucial topics affecting the region. WCC staff contributed to this meeting with presentations on Ecumenism and climate change. Church leaders adopted the Moana declaration on "Our Oikos - a new consciousness on climate change and our call to action".

In a meeting organized by the World Council of Churches in Dar Sayedat Al Jabal, Fatka, Lebanon, between 10 and 11 February 2009, twelve church leaders from all over Iraq discussed the current situation of its Christians community. Representatives from different Iraqi churches participated in the meeting together with bishops from the Syrian and Armenian Orthodox Churches and the Chaldean Church in Lebanon, and the General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches.

The World Council of Churches convened a meeting at the Ecumenical Centre, Geneva on December 4 & 5, 2008 with some of those who have been involved in the work of the Programme to Combat Racism to consider appropriate ways in which its 40th anniversary might be commemorated in 2009.
