Salt of the Earth group draws young Christians together in West Bank

Osama Sayegh has a heart for numbers: four in Deir Ghazaleh, 35 in Kufr Kad, 50 in Toubas, 35 in Jalameh, 67 in Burqin, 130 in Jenin.

He counts the number of Christians left in these communities across the northern part of the West Bank. He reaches with his heart for the people behind those numbers: why are young Christian families leaving? How can he convince them to stay?

En una declaración pública, el Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) llama a las iglesias miembros y a los asociados ecuménicos del CMI “a condenar o reiterar su condena de la violencia sexual y de género, así como de toda forma de violencia contra las mujeres, los niños y las personas vulnerables; a declarar que ese rechazo de la igualdad de dignidad de todas las personas y esa violencia son pecado, y a implementar las directrices relativas a la  prevención de la explotación, el abuso y el acoso sexual.

Erklärung des ÖRK-Zentralausschusses zu sexueller Ausbeutung, Misshandlung und Belästigung ruft Kirchen dazu auf, Ungerechtigkeit herauszufordern und Bewusstsein zu bilden

Der Zentralausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) ruft ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen und ökumenische Partner in einer öffentlichen Erklärung dazu auf, “sexualisierte oder geschlechtsspezifische Gewalt und jede Form von Gewalt gegen Frauen, Kinder und vulnerable Personen zu verurteilen oder ihre bereits erfolgte Verurteilung zu bekräftigen, solche Verneinung der gleichen Würde aller Menschen und derartige Gewalt zur Sünde zu erklären und Richtlinien zur Prävention von sexueller Ausbeutung, Misshandlungen and Belästigung zu implementieren.”

Dans une déclaration publique, le Comité central du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) a appelé les Églises membres et les partenaires œcuméniques du COE «à condamner ou à réitérer leur condamnation des violences sexuelles et sexistes et de toute forme de violence à l’encontre des femmes, des enfants et des personnes vulnérables; à qualifier ces violences de péché; et à mettre en œuvre des recommandations pour la prévention de l’exploitation, des abus et du harcèlement sexuels».

WCC central committee statement on sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment calls churches to challenge injustice, build awareness

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, in a public statement, called upon WCC member churches and ecumenical partners to condemn or reiterate their condemnation of sexual and gender-based violence and of any form of violence against women, children and vulnerable people; to declare such rejection of the equal dignity of all people and such violence a sin; and to implement guidelines for the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.”

WCC executive committee appoints three new WCC staff leaders

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee has appointed, by consensus, three new WCC staff leaders: a programme director for Unity and Mission; a programme director for Public Witness and Diakonia; and a director of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism.
