This first issue of the Living Planet Monitor aims to monitor our commitment to sustainable food systems, conservation of land, ecological biodiversity, and water justice in Africa The Living Planet Monitor will give you an overview of the situation in a particular continent by monitoring indicators on food security, water resources, land use, and climate resilience. It is a key instrument for faith communities to stay informed on the current situation, share good practices and projects led by church-based organizations, and give hope and courage to transform the situation.

GEM School inspires Brazilian gathering focused on justice and ecological balance

Community leaders from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Uruguay, and Brazil recently gathered in São Paulo for an international exchange to advance an "Economy of Life" focused on sustainability, human dignity, and social justice. The event, an outcome of the Ecumenical School of Governance, Economics, and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School 2023), provided a platform for grassroots leaders to share strategies for community empowerment and systemic change.

Dans le cadre de son engagement pour l’eau et l’alimentation pour la vie, le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), par l’entremise de son Réseau œcuménique de l’eau, coorganisera l’événement parallèle L’eau pour la vie: combler le fossé entre le droit à l’eau et le droit à l’alimentation en marge de la 52e session du Comité de la sécurité alimentaire mondiale (CFS 52). L’événement hybride se tiendra le 22 octobre 2024 de 8h30 à 9h45, heure de Genève, dans la salle Iran du siège de la FAO à Rome, en Italie.

Agua para la vida: poniendo el foco en el nexo entre el derecho al agua y a los alimentos

En el marco de su compromiso permanente con el agua y los alimentos para la vida, el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), a través de su Red Ecuménica del Agua, copatrocinará el evento paralelo Agua para la vida: poniendo el foco en el nexo entre el derecho al agua y a los alimentos durante el 52º período de sesiones del Comité de Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial (CSA 52). Este evento híbrido tendrá lugar el 22 de octubre de 2024 de 08:30 a. m. a 09:45 a. m. CEST en la Sala de Irán, en la sede de la FAO en Roma, Italia.

Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) ist im Rahmen seines Engagements für Wasser und Nahrung zum Leben über das Ökumenische Wassernetzwerk ein Mitveranstalter der Nebenveranstaltung Water for Life: Bridging the Gap Between the Right to Water and Food während der 52. Sitzung des Welternährungsausschusses (CFS 52). Die hybrid abgehaltene Veranstaltung findet am 22. Oktober 2024 von 08:30 Uhr bis 09:45 Uhr MESZ im Iran-Raum im Hauptquartier der Ernährungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation der Vereinten Nationen (FAO) in Rom, Italien statt.

At World Food Day webinar, WCC urges systemic change to break the hunger cycle

The World Council of Churches (WCC) hosted a webinar addressing global hunger and food insecurity, bringing together faith representatives, nutrition experts, and social advocates who called for urgent systemic reform. The event, part of the WCC’s initiative of Land, Water, and Food Justice of the Living Planet Programme, focused on how hunger disproportionately affects marginalized communities, particularly emphasizing how gender disparities worsen food insecurity.

As part of its ongoing commitment to water and food for life, the World Council of Churches (WCC), through its Ecumenical Water Network, will cohost the side event Water for Life: Bridging the Gap Between the Right to Water and Food during the 52nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 52). The hybrid event will be held on 22 October from 8:30 am to 9:45 am CEST at the Iran Room, FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Weekend of Prayer and Action Against Hunger offers spiritual and practical steps to end hunger

The World Council of Churches (WCC), along with global faith organizations, raised urgent awareness of the growing hunger crisis through the "Weekend of Prayer and Action Against Hunger." Inspired by Isaiah 58—"to loose the chains of injustice, untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free...and share our food with the hungry"—this global movement called on faith communities to take spiritual and practical steps to help end hunger.

Breaking the hunger cycle: WCC to host Webinar on food security and nutrition for World Food Day

On 16 October, during World Food Day, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will host an international webinar to address the worsening global food crisis. Featuring voices from the United Nations, civil society, academia, and faith communities, the event will examine the systemic causes of hunger and explore ways to empower women and children, the most vulnerable to food insecurity.

“Human Rights in Indonesia” side event will address crises in West Papua

A side event to the 57th UN Human Rights Council entitled Human Rights in Indonesia,” hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and partner organizations on 1 October, will address the dire human rights situation in West Papua, with ongoing violations that include extra-judicial killings, internal displacement due to armed conflict, restrictions on civil liberties, and a growing number of cases of land grabbing.
