WCC extends prayers for Tonga in wake of volcanic eruption

World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca extended prayers and condolences to people in Tonga, and the churches and rescue workers helping them, in the wake of a massive volcanic eruption smothered the Pacific islands in ash, cut power and severed communications.

Rev. Frank Chikane: “You can’t do unity at the expense of justice”

When Rev. Frank Chikane was leading the South African Council of Churches in calling out injustices of the apartheid system, their work did not stop even after the council’s office building was bombed to the ground in 1980s. Moderating the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the World Council of Churches (WCC) since 2016, Rev. WCC website selected for inclusion in Swiss National Library archives as resource of patrimonial importance

The World Council of Churches (WCC) website will be included in the archives of the Swiss National Library as part of a collection of websites of patrimonial importance” in Switzerland. The Swiss National Library collects specifically non-commercial websites, that are relevant to the nations heritage,” explained Anne-Emmanuelle Tankam-Tene, archivist at the WCC.
