Linking with the theme of 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”, this hybrid session will bring a range of perspectives to bear on the questions: What can we do to address extreme wealth concentration? How can taxing the richest in our societies as well as addressing corporate tax evasion serve to advance the goal of gender equity? And why should faith-based organisations care?

In the context of the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches, the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace and the 2030 sustainable development agenda, an international consultation will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the WCC’s Decade of the Churches in Solidarity with Women (1988-1998). The seminar Empowerment of Pan-African Women in the Ecumenical Movement in a Sustainable Development Perspective of the Pan-African Women’s Ecumenical Empowerment Network (PAWEEN) of the Ecumenical Theological Education programme of the WCC, offers an impetus to the invitation of the WCC member churches to join a pilgrimage of justice and peace.
