“Humanitarian Corridors” open for Syrians fleeing Lebanon

On 27 March, a hug between a 7-year-old girl, Majida, and her grandmother reflected the bright light of possibility that the ecumenical Humanitarian Corridors project continues to bring to refugees arriving in Italy. The child was waiting with other family members at the Fiumicino Airport in Rome as her grandmother arrived, safely and legally, in Italy from Lebanon.

Irish church leaders call for hope and peace-building in Northern Ireland

Irish church leaders have in an ecumenical message called for a spirit of hope and continued peace-building in Northern Ireland when talks resume to form a government there after the UK General Election. The church leaders from Northern Ireland were speaking before voters there along with those from England, Wales and Scotland were to vote in a general election on 8 June for the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland’s future has been uncertain in recent months after the 10-year power-sharing coalition of unionists.

WCC condemns Brussels museum shootings

The general secretary of the WCC, Dr Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit, has condemned the 24 May attack on the Jewish Museum in Brussels which resulted in the deaths of four persons including two Israeli citizens.
