Refugees, regionally diverse international and local religious leaders, faith representatives and institutions will gather for a special ceremony of inter-religious prayer, co-curated by the Plateforme InterReligieuse de Genève, and the World Council of Churches, as part of the event “Religious Leaders Unite for Climate Peace in Solidarity with Refugees”, linked to the Global Refugee Forum.

Part of the international conference held on 9-12 April in Wuppertal, Germany, the online panel discussion on 11 April will reflect on the challenges for a common vision of churches on human rights today, bringing together biblical, theological and practical perspectives on human dignity.

The eighteenth Building Bridges Seminar will meet 11–15 June 2019 in the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey in Geneva, Switzerland. An international circle of scholars will engage in close reading and dialogue on the topic of freedom—between humanity and God, different religions and politics, personal conviction and public order, and between individuals— exploring the historic role of faith communities in addressing freedom.

It has been two years since the United High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) launched its Global Action Plan to End Statelessness and the first ever Global Forum on Statelessness in The Hague, The Netherlands, where an ecumenical delegation shared their Recommendations. The Churches’ Week of Action on Food is an opportunity for Christians and others around the world to act together for food justice and food sovereignty. It is a special time to raise awareness about farming approaches that help individuals and communities develop resiliency and combat poverty. The Food for Life Campaign places a particular emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices and the situation of smallholder producers and their access to, and control over, natural resources such as land, water and seeds.

The WCC general secretary has endorsed a call by Pope Francis for worldwide common prayer for peace in Syria “with a particular emphasis on Saturday, 7 September.”
