On 4 October, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will join global faith leaders and youth in a prayer service to close the Season of Creation. Themed “To Hope and Act with Creation,” with a focus on the Fossil Fuel Phase-Out Initiative, this youth-led event calls on faith communities to unite in prayer and action to address the climate crisis.

As part of the Summit of the Future Action Days on 21 September, the World Council of Churches (WCC) calls on churches, individuals, and organizations worldwide to endorse the Faith for Non-Proliferation Treaty. This initiative aims to catalyze the phase-out of fossil fuels while ensuring a just transition for workers, communities, and countries.

A webinar, “The role of Faith Actors and Governments in ensuring a just energy transition and mitigating climate change through a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty,” held 10 September offered many perspectives on how churches can pray and act in this arena.

As part of this year's Season of Creation, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will co-host a high-level webinar on 10 September. This event will bring together faith leaders, government officials, and climate advocates to discuss the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT) and its role in securing a just energy transition.

In the opening event for the global Season of Creation, faith leaders from diverse Christian traditions gathered to reflect on the 2024 theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” focusing on humanity's relationship with nature and the urgent need for environmental justice.

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the Archbishop of Constantinople, shared a message on the opening of Season of Creation 2024. 

On 1 September, the Season of Creation 2024 will begin with a global online prayer event, bringing together Christians from diverse traditions to pray for the wellbeing of creation. This year’s theme, "To hope and act with Creation," highlights the moral imperative for faith communities to take decisive action against the environmental crisis.
