Thirty days that changed the ecumenical movement

No holidays for William Temple, Archbishop of York, early in August 1937. The ecumenical movement for the social responsibility of the churches, known as “Life and Work,” had just held its world conference in Oxford, 12-26 July, with the church struggle against emerging totalitarian states at the heart of its theme and work. Temple had drafted the final message of the conference, known for the motto “let the Church be the Church.”

Irish church leaders call for hope and peace-building in Northern Ireland

Irish church leaders have in an ecumenical message called for a spirit of hope and continued peace-building in Northern Ireland when talks resume to form a government there after the UK General Election. The church leaders from Northern Ireland were speaking before voters there along with those from England, Wales and Scotland were to vote in a general election on 8 June for the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland’s future has been uncertain in recent months after the 10-year power-sharing coalition of unionists.

WCC general secretary: Christian unity is intrinsic to God’s grace

"Christian unity is an intrinsic dimension of God’s grace to us. It belongs to our faith, as we also confess it together in the creeds of the early church. To belong to Christ means to belong to the body of Christ, the church," said the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC). He was referring to the covenanting process of five church denominations in Wales.

Geplant ist ein umfangreiches Besuchsprogramm, das Kobia Gelegenheit bieten wird, eine Vielzahl neuer Einblicke in Leben und Arbeit der Mitgliedskirchen von "Churches Together in Britain and Ireland" (CTBI) zu gewinnen.
