WCC extends prayers for lasting peace in Haiti

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay sent a pastoral letter to Haitian brothers and sisters whose lives are lived in a land with hatred, violence, and suffering. Although we might be physically distant, we are close to you in heart, in the spiritual sense,” wrote Pillay. We all are children of God. WCC prays for Haiti in wake of 7.2-magnitude earthquake

The World Council of Churches (WCC) reached out in solidarity and prayer to people and churches in Haiti in the wake of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, on 14 August. 

The Haitian government declared a state of emergency, with 1,300 dead and several thousands injured.

Thursdays in Black rally renews determination to strive for justice

During an open air common prayer event held in Nelson Mandela Park in Kingston, Jamaica on 4 October, women and men processed and sang, most of them dressed in black as they renewed and expanded their commitment to the Thursdays in Black campaign seeking a world free from rape and violence.

Caribbean Christians craft unity prayers

“The people of the Caribbean have a rich story to tell, one that can enrich the spiritual lives of Christians around the world,” said Fr Anthony Currer of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. That very story was shared in a heartfelt way this week at an ecumenical gathering to create the first draft of the text that will be used for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2018.
