With 124 of 155 central committee members and presidents from around the world present, the WCC central committee convened to advance preparations for the 11th WCC Assembly, taking place in 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany under the theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.” The central committee also addressed membership matters and strengthened the WCC fellowship through prayer and sharing.

El Departamento de Comunicación del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) ha publicado nuevas directrices internas para garantizar una comunicación inclusiva y accesible. En el pasado reciente, la comunicación del CMI ha intensificado sus esfuerzos con el fin de que la comunicación fuera más inclusiva y accesible. Un ejemplo de ello es que el desarrollo del nuevo sitio web del CMI tomó en consideración las necesidades de accesibilidad de las personas con discapacidad. Otro ejemplo: el CMI ha estado probando la interpretación en lenguage de señas en los seminarios en línea. En 2021, el equipo de comunicación examinó todavía más maneras de garantizar que nuestra labor comunicativa sea inclusiva y que mantenga un alto nivel de accesibilidad mientras nos preparamos para la 11ª Asamblea del CMI en Karlsruhe y de cara al futuro. Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) hat neue interne Leitlinien veröffentlicht, um eine barrierefreie Kommunikation zu gewährleisten. In der jüngsten Vergangenheit verstärkte die Kommunikationsabteilung des ÖRK ihre Bemühungen, die Kommunikation zunehmend inklusiv und zugänglich zu gestalten. Bei der Entwicklung der neuen ÖRK-Website wurden beispielsweise die Bedürfnisse von Personen mit Behinderung berücksichtigt und für die Webinare des ÖRK wurde die Verdolmetschung in Gebärdensprache getestet. Im Jahr 2021, mit Blick auf die 11. ÖRK-Vollversammlung in Karlsruhe und darüber hinaus, erörterte das Team auch noch weitere Wege, um zu versichern, dass die Kommunikationsarbeit barrierefrei und stets einfach zugänglich ist. Aus diesen Gründen war es nötig, über Leitlinien für eine barrierefreie Kommunikation zu verfügen.
Communications from the WCC should be inclusive and maintain high accessibility. Inclusive and accessible communication contributes to creating a more inclusive WCC and realizing the human rights of all persons, including persons with disabilities.
The World Council of Churches (WCC) Communication has published new internal guidelines to ensure inclusive and accessible communication. In the recent past, WCC communication has been stepping up efforts to have a more inclusive and accessible communication. One example is that the development of the new WCC website took into consideration accessibility needs of persons with disabilities. Another example: the WCC has been testing sign language interpreta-tion in webinars. In 2021, the communication team explored even more ways to ensure our communication work is inclusive and maintains high accessibility as we prepare for the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe—and beyond. All this necessitated the need to have guidelines for inclusive and accessible communication.
A new series of World Council of Churches (WCC) Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace consultations is exploring the impact of COVID-19 on the global fellowship in eight different global regions, the next phase of supporting the WCC fellowship amid the ongoing pandemic.
“Persons with disabilities as well as other persons in the community see the church as a pillar of support to their complete wellbeing,” said Anderson Gitonga, executive director of United Disabled Persons of Kenya at a virtual dialogue, held 5 May, on promoting mental wellness of persons with disabilities in Kenya during and beyond COVID-19. “There is need for the church to explore further ways to build communities of support within communities to promote mental wellness of persons with disabilities during COVID-19.”
