In solidarity visit to Sudan, WCC strengthens foundations for peace

The World Council of Churches led a delegation on a visit to Sudan from 18-22 April. The ecumenical group included the World Council of Churches (WCC), All Africa Conference of Churches, ACT Alliance, Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa Global Ministries, Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa, General Board Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, and Norwegian Church Aid.

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay sent a pastoral letter to Haitian brothers and sisters whose lives are lived in a land with hatred, violence, and suffering. Although we might be physically distant, we are close to you in heart, in the spiritual sense,” wrote Pillay. We all are children of God. We belong to one family, as Jesus Christ himself said.”

Beyond his professional duties, Samson also serves as the vice-chair of the St Cosmas and Damianos Cathedral in Nairobi, showcasing his dedication to both his professional and spiritual obligations.

WCC general secretary met with Cuban president

In a visit to Cuba from 17-19 December, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay met with Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Palacio de las Convenciones in Havana. I was deeply impressed with our heart-to-heart meeting with the president of Cuba,” expressed Pillay.

Religious leaders observe elections in Democratic Republic of Congo

To promote transparent, democratic, and peaceful elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the All Africa Conference of Churches, with the World Council of Churches (WCC) and Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa, appointed international ecumenical observers to observe the elections on 20 December.
