WCC and the Colombia peace process “a true witness of international solidarity”

About nine months ago, In Colombia, the peace process through the Round Table of Peace Dialogues between the government and the Estado Mayor Central of the FARC-EP, formally began talks began between both negotiating parties. The bilateral ceasefire has been a crucial decision for the peace process and international humanitarian law for the people of Colombia. One exception was a lifting of the ceasefire in the southwestern region of Colombia due to acts of violence that affected the civil population.

The World Council of Churches (WCC), as a member of the Geneva Interfaith Forum on Climate Change, Environment, and Human Rights, is co-organising a side event at the 56th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. Focusing on the intersection of human rights and noneconomic loss and damage in the context of climate change, the event will take place on 1 July from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Room XXV, Palais des Nations.

Reflexionando sobre la interesante historia de la Biblia en la que Moisés convierte el agua amarga de Mara en agua potable, con la ayuda de Dios, Havea sostiene que el agua potable puede traer la paz mientras que la falta de agua es una fuente de conflicto, para después animar a los lectores a abogar por la justicia hídrica.

Reflecting on the interesting story of the Bible where Moses turns the bitter water of Marah into drinkable water, with the help of God, Havea argues that drinkable water can bring peace while lack of water is a source of conflict. Then he encourages the readers to advocate for water justice.

Dirigentes religiosos de unas cuarenta organizaciones confesionales del mundo entero acordaron seguir defendiendo el derecho individual a solicitar asilo durante una reunión en Ginebra en la víspera del Foro Mundial sobre los Refugiados, el encuentro internacional sobre este asunto de mayor relevancia mundial. El hito se produjo en un evento celebrado el 12 de diciembre en el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), que presidió un arzobispo armenio y una diplomática de la ONU que fue legisladora en Turquía.

Religiöse Führungspersönlichkeiten setzen sich gemeinsam und in Solidarität mit Geflüchteten für Klimafrieden ein und geben der UN-Konferenz neue Impulse

Als religiöse Führungskräfte von rund 40 glaubensgeleiteten Organisationen aus der ganzen Welt während einer Zusammenkunft in Genf beschlossen, das individuelle Recht auf Asyl zu verteidigen, war dies ein Höhepunkt am Vorabend des Globalen Flüchtlingsforums, der weltweit größten Versammlung dieser Art. Die Teilnehmenden trafen sich am 12. Dezember auf einer eintägigen Veranstaltung beim Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) unter Vorsitz eines armenischen Erzbischofs und eines UN-Diplomatin, die früher einmal türkische Abgeordnete war.
