Speakers and participants will explore the question: What does it mean to be the church within the contemporary context of world Christianity?

A World Council of Churches (WCC) online missiological conference will celebrate the centenary of the International Missionary Council on 16-18 November. The conference will include public webinars, in addition to regional sessions of the International Missionary Council study process.

On 10 November, the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on World Mission and Evangelism will release a new publication, “Call to Discipleship: Mission in the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace,” a collection of the commission’s study documents from 2018-2021.

Organised by the Council for World Mission (CWM), Lutheran World Federation (LWF), World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), World Council of Churches (WCC) and World Methodist Council (WMC) under the New International Financial and Economic Architecture (NIFEA) initiative, the NIFEA E-conference on “Degrowth - Living Sufficiently and Sustainably” will be a space to discuss and unpack various visions of “de-growth” or “post-growth” with a view to addressing the urgent eco-crisis and pandemic of inequality besetting the planet today.  

The WCC Ecumenical Institute at Bossey sets out to broaden its repertoire of courses in Ecumenical Studies to include a course now offered fully online.

A book by Ken Ross, Mission Rediscovered: Transforming Disciples, will be released during a webinar on 2 December 2020.

On 13 February 2020, in Nairobi (Kenya) a one-day theological seminar,“Re-visiting Arusha 2018 : Highlights of African Missiology, will give space to theological reflections linked to the the Arusha Conference, as well as create space for new reflections based on the Arusha Call to Discipleship, a key document and outcome of the Arusha world conference.

The Nigerian Patriarch His Holiness Pope Dr Rufus Okikiola Ositelu, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Church of The Lord (Prayer Fellowship) Worldwide is visiting Geneva and the WCC 29-30 January 2018. A public panel on "Christianity and human rights in multi-faith Nigeria", hosted by WCC, will take place 29 January at 14.00-15.30, at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The event is followed by a press briefing.

Please note: This seminar has been postponed to 2017. The exact dates will be communicated at a later stage.

Participants from different regions and Christian traditions will analyze together the challenges to mission in secularized contexts. They will discuss relevant passages of the mission statement Together Towards Life and work together on strategies and approaches to address this situation ecumenically – also drawing on the presence and vital witness of Christian communities of migrants.
