Celebration of the 175th anniversary of an 1836 reformation in the historic Malankara church in India featured a keynote address on 20 August by the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit. The speech was given at the headquarters of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar in Kerala. Among those attending the event were Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Old Catholic church leaders.

En medio de los combates y la crisis humanitaria que se padece en varias regiones del Sudán, y con el riesgo de que fracase el acuerdo de paz de 2005 que puso fin a dos decenios de guerra civil entre el norte y el sur, el pueblo y las iglesias del Sudán se enfrentan con "enormes tareas y desafíos", tal como se informó a un equipo ecuménico internacional de representantes de iglesias, al comienzo de una visita de solidaridad de ocho días realizada al país.

Angesichts der Kämpfe und humanitären Krisen, die in mehreren Regionen des Sudan andauern und die Umsetzung des Friedensabkommens von 2005 gefährden, stehen das sudanesische Volk und die Kirchen des Landes vor "gewaltigen Aufgaben und Herausforderungen". Dies war die Botschaft, die einem internationalen ökumenischen Team von Kirchenvertretern/innen zu Beginn ihres achttägigen Solidaritätsbesuchs im Sudan übermittelt wurde.

Amid ongoing fighting and humanitarian crises in several regions of Sudan, and risks of failure in implementing the 2005 peace agreement that ended two decades of civil war between north and south, the Sudanese people and churches face "tremendous tasks and challenges", an international ecumenical team of church representatives was told at the beginning of an eight-day solidarity visit to the country.

On the occasion of Dr Joseph Mar Irenaeus' enthronement as Malankara Mar Thoma Metropolitan on 2 October 2007, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia extended the Council's "hearty congratulations, prayers and best wishes".
