A graduation ceremony marked the end of an intensive course in interreligious studies for seven students from six different countries who lived together at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey. The theme of this year’s program was “Health and wholeness of life in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.”

Graduates of the 2023 Certificate of Advanced Studies in Interreligious Studies at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey sent a message to the world as they completed their academic pursuits and prepared to return to their diverse homes and faith traditions.

Iranian rector Ayatollah M. Seyyed Abolhassan Nawab and Ms Zahra Sedigh, from the Iranian Mission to the UN, visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 27 July, discussing education and formation, as well as the importance of strengthening the role of interreligious cooperation.

The latest issue of Current Dialogue, the journal of the World Council of Churches (WCC) on interreligious dialogue and cooperation, takes as its theme “Healing Wounded Memories through Interreligious Perspective and Engagement.”

The deadline to apply for the Bossey Ecumenical Institute’s 2022 Certificate in Advanced Studies – Interreligious Studies is 1 May.

World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca met with Dr Muhammad Bin Abulkarim Al-Issa, secretary general of the Mecca-based Muslim World League and Aamir Javed Sheikh, head of the Norway-based Foundation Dialogue for Peace, at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute on 31 August.

Scholars and academics from different religious traditions have gathered online for the first meeting of the editorial board of Current Dialogue, the World Council of Churches’ journal on interreligious encounter.

A lively interchange on the rapidly changing landscape of interreligious encounter marked the launch of a new journal at the Ecumenical Centre on Friday, 7 February. The occasion was the unveiling of the new incarnation of Current Dialogue, the pioneering World Council of Churches periodical on interreligious dialogue. Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), welcomed the new publishing arrangement as an historic moment for the ecumenical movement, through which Current Dialogue joins the WCC’s other two academic journals, noting that the journal brings a distinctive ecumenical perspective to the growing field.

With great sadness, the World Council of Churches (WCC) received news of the demise of Prof. Vuyani Vellem on 4 December. A member of the WCC’s Commission on Ecumenical Education and Formation, Vellem was director of the Centre for Public Theology and associate professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He also served as deputy secretary of the South Africa Council of Churches.

The annual meeting with the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID) and the World Council of Churches was held in Rome from 10-11 January. Staff of both the PCID and the Office of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation of the World Council of Churches participated.
