Green Village: Sale of land and office building and start of second development phase

Convinced by the innovative and sustainable concepts initiated by the World Council of Churches and Implenia, the leading Swiss construction and real estate services provider, Swiss Life Investment Foundation has bought a land plot on the Green Village estate and the Kyoto office building, which will have a gross floor area of some 14,000 m². Green Village, the real estate development project in the heart of the Quartier des Nations in Geneva, has successfully achieved a further milestone towards completion of its first phase.

Nordic churches meet with WCC for a look at horizon of hope

Leaders from Nordic churches—including the Church of Sweden and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark—met with World Council of Churches (WCC) leadership and staff on 28 April, discussing preparations for the WCC 11th Assembly as well as directions for the next decade.

Bishop Johan Tyrberg and a delegation from the Church of Sweden in Lund visited the World Council of Churches on 22-23 September, participating in a morning prayer for Christian unity, receiving a guided tour and discussing the theme of the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly, “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”

A delegation composed of the “collegial general secretariat” of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) visited the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 17 September to discuss with World Council of Churches (WCC) leadership how to strengthen ties between the two organizations by connecting programmatically.

WCC executive committee will convene, call for unity in defeating COVID-19

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will convene from 17-20 May, and if needed on 25 May, with a focus on preparing for the upcoming WCC central committee meeting, planning for the WCC 11th Assembly in Germany in 2022, and issuing a public statement on overcoming global injustice and inequity to defeat COVID-19.

On 17 September, a livestream event will show how the Green Village promotes a “New way of work” for the World Council of Churches and other organizations that will be located there. The webinar is designed in the Green Village spirit, fostering the open exchange of ideas for a better future.

Green Village: the first Geneva property development with the “One Planet Living” label

With the signature of an agreement between the stakeholders, Green Village has become the first Geneva development project to qualify for the One Planet Living label. The formal action plan covers ten principles representing a serious undertaking from the landowner, the developer, and the host municipality in particular. Party to the agreement, the “Association Suisse Pour Des Quartiers One Planet Living”, founded by WWF Switzerland and Implenia, promotes sustainable neighbourhoods. Implenia is also the developer of the Green Village project.

As Green Village construction begins, WCC honors ecological concerns

The World Council of Churches (WCC) was addressing ecological concerns, including climate change, “way before it was fashionable,” WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit said at a recent presentation on the Green Village, the new development concept for the property on which the Ecumenical Centre now stands.
