World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay strongly condemned an attack by Israeli forces near a camp for displaced persons in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip. Dozens of people were killed in the 26 May airstrike in an area where displaced civilians were sheltering in tents. The strike sparked a fire that tore across the camp, local officials said.

Während ein außergewöhnlich und zunehmend konfliktreiches Jahr zu Ende geht und wir für Frieden für alle im Jahr 2024 beten, „scheint die Chance darauf nirgends so fern zu sein, wie für die leidenden und traumatisierten Menschen im Gaza-Streifen“, sagte der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay.

As a year of exceptional and increasing conflict draws to a close, and as we pray for peace for all in 2024, “that prospect seems nowhere more remote than for the suffering and traumatized people of Gaza,” said World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay.
