The World Council of Churches (WCC) has made new staff appointments during 2024, including three new commission directors. WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay warmly greeted them as they began to serve in their particular ministries.

Three WCC commissions close historic meeting, expressing hope in future work

As three World Council of Churches commissions—the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, Commission on Health and Healing, and Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development—completed their meeting on 8 March in Geneva, they came away with a sense of collaborative determination to address the world’s challenges with hope and with practical actions.

Jackline Makena Mutuma est membre du clergé de l’Église méthodiste du Kenya et étudiante à l’Institut œcuménique de Bossey du Conseil œcuménique des Églises où ses recherches portent sur l’interaction entre l’esclavage moderne et le réchauffement climatique. Par ailleurs, elle a récemment été élue vice-présidente de la Commission de Foi et constitution du COE. Dans un entretien au COE, elle livre ses réflexions sur la question pressante de la prévention de l’esclavage moderne.

Jackline Makena Mutuma ist Pastorin der Methodistischen Kirche in Kenia und studiert am Ökumenischen Institut des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) in Bossey. Ihre derzeitigen wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten befassen sich mit dem Zusammenhang zwischen moderner Sklaverei und Klimawandel. Vor kurzem wurde sie zu einer der stellvertretenden Vorsitzenden der ÖRK-Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung gewählt. In einem Interview mit dem ÖRK spricht sie darüber, dass Maßnahmen zur Verhinderung moderner Sklaverei dringend erforderlich seien.
