COP27 creation not for sale

El CMI celebra la decisión de la COP27 de apoyar a las comunidades vulnerables al cambio climático, pero expresa preocupación por los escasos avances para limitar las emisiones de CO2

18 de noviembre de 2022, Sharm el-Sheikh (Egipto): Una mujer sujeta en alto una pancarta en la que se lee “La creación no está en venta” mientras los jóvenes concluyen una marcha, organizada como una huelga de los viernes para reclamar justicia climática, en el recinto de la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático COP27. Al mismo tiempo, los representantes de las Partes celebran una sesión informal de recapitulación para ver en qué punto se encuentran las negociaciones en el que, inicialmente, estaba previsto que fuera el último día de la conferencia, pero que ahora se considera que no será suficiente para llegar a un acuerdo que todas las Partes puedan aceptar.

Where are we at the climate change negotiations?

COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh is over. Numerous reports have all pointed out that if we don't cut the emissions of greenhouse gases radically and immediately, we will not keep the global average temperature rise below 1.5 degrees. Therefore, the emissions must drastically decrease in the coming decades if we want to avoid severe consequences for our home, planet Earth.

Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca joined other faith leaders in signing a collective message calling on world leaders and their representatives at COP27 to make the bold decisions necessary and ensure that there are clear and concrete outcomes from this COP.

DECLARATION SUR LA 27E CONFERENCE DES PARTIES A LA CONVENTION-CADRE DES NATIONS UNIES SUR LES CHANGEMENTS CLIMATIQUES (COP 27)

Chrétiennes et chrétiens, nous confessons: «Au Seigneur, la terre et ses richesses, le monde et ses habitants» (Ps 24). Nous reconnaissons notre responsabilité de gardiennes et gardiens de la Création unique et abondante de Dieu dont nous faisons partie. Or, un simple coup d’œil à l’état de notre monde aujourd’hui, nous permet de constater qu’à cause de notre avarice et de notre négligence, toute la planète vivante est menacée par des changements climatiques qui s’accélèrent. «La terre en deuil se dégrade, le monde entier dépérit et se dégrade...», «La terre a été profanée sous les pieds de ses habitants...» (Ésaïe 24, 4–5).

DECLARACIÓN SOBRE LA 27a CONFERENCIA DE LAS PARTES DE LA CONVENCIÓN MARCO DE LAS NACIONES UNIDAS SOBRE EL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO (COP 17)

Como cristianos y cristianas confesamos que “del Señor es la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella; el mundo y los que lo habitan” (Salmo 24:1). Reconocemos nuestra responsabilidad como custodios y guardianes de la creación de Dios, única y abundante, de la que los seres humanos somos parte. No obstante, al observar nuestro mundo actual, vemos que debido a nuestra avaricia y negligencia el planeta vivo en su totalidad está amenazado por la aceleración del cambio climático. “La tierra está de duelo, se reseca; el mundo languidece, se reseca. [...] La tierra ha sido profanada por sus habitantes [...]” (Isaías 24:4-5).

Statement on the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27)

As Christians we confess that “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it” (Ps 24). We acknowledge our responsibility as stewards and caretakers of God’s unique and abundant Creation of which we human beings are part. And yet we look around our world today, and see that due to our greed and negligence the entire living planet is threatened by accelerating climate change. “The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers…”, “The earth is defiled by its people…” (Isaiah 24:4-5).
