Une rencontre historique sur les dimensions spirituelles de la crise écologique a rassemblé les responsables chrétien-ne-s de traditions orientales et occidentales à Assise, en Italie, pour concevoir une Fête de la création liturgique commune. La conférence s’est déroulée sur trois jours du 5 au 7 mai et a constitué une étape importante vers ce que l’évêque Heinrich Bedford-Strohm qualifie de «merveilleuse expression de l’essence trinitaire qui nous unit en tant qu’Églises» et de réponse spirituelle forte aux enjeux climatiques urgents qui assaillent le monde.

Die dreitägige Konferenz vom 5. bis 7. Mai ist ein wichtiger Schritt in Richtung eines in den Worten von Bischof Prof. Dr. Heinrich Bedford-Strohm „wundervollen Ausdrucks der trinitarischen Kerns, der uns als Kirchen eint“, und eine kraftvolle spirituelle Reaktion auf die akuten klimatischen Herausforderungen unseres Planeten.

En un encuentro sin precedentes para abordar las dimensiones espirituales de la crisis ecológica, líderes cristianos de las tradiciones oriental y occidental se reunieron en Asís (Italia) para desarrollar una Fiesta litúrgica de la Creación compartida. La conferencia de tres días, del 5 al 7 de mayo, supone un paso significativo hacia el establecimiento de lo que el obispo Prof. Dr. Heinrich Bedford-Strohm describió como “una maravillosa expresión de la esencia trinitaria que nos une como iglesias” y una poderosa respuesta espiritual a los acuciantes desafíos climáticos a los que se enfrenta nuestro planeta.

Christian leaders unite in Assisi to establish historic Feast of Creation

In a landmark gathering addressing the spiritual dimensions of the ecological crisis, Christian leaders from Eastern and Western traditions convened in Assisi, Italy, to develop a shared liturgical Feast of Creation. The three-day conference from 5-7 May marks a significant step toward establishing what Bishop Prof. Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm described as "a wonderful expression of the trinitarian essence that unites us as churches" and a powerful spiritual response to the urgent climate challenges facing our planet.

Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay commemorated the 160th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan with special greetings reflecting on the anniversary theme Dwelling in God`s Abundance.”  On 23 April 2025, Pillay preached during a service commemorating the anniversary.

The Nicaea Centenary & Creation Day: 2nd Ecumenical Conference on the New Liturgical Feast

The World Council of Churches, together with the Anglican Communion, Lutheran World Federation, World Communion of Reformed Churches, World Methodist Council, and Middle East Council of Churches, is organizing an ecumenical conference that will continue the historic conversation begun in March 2024 about establishing "Creation Day" (1 September) as a liturgical feast/festival in Western denominations.

The Feast of Creation initiative represents a profound ecumenical opportunity as Christian churches worldwide consider elevating 1 September from a World Day of Prayer for Creation to a liturgical feast across denominations. A key milestone in this journey will be the upcoming Nicaea Centenary and Creation Day Conference in Assisi in May, where church actors will discuss pathways in this important process. Seven Weeks for Water 2025, week 3: "Symbiotic Guardianship: The Bond Between Humans and the Achachilas"

The third reflection of the Seven Weeks for Water 2025 series of the WCC Ecumenical Water Network is written by Jocabed Reina Solano Miselis, a daughter of the Gunadule nation in Panama. Being an Indigenous activist, she juxtaposes the indigenous spirituality and their integral connection with the nature, the “Achachilas” with the unsatiable desire of humans to exploit the nature for its resources, driven by capitalism. She introduces us to the indigenous belief system which is based on the reciprocity of mother earth and human beings, caring for each other. 

WCC moderator speaks during Focolare meeting

Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican bishops from all over the world took part in an international ecumenical online meeting of the Focolare Movement on 19 September. World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm spoke about the WCCs work in the face of the world’s grave challenges. 

Global Prayer mobilizes Christian communities for Season of Creation 2024

On 1 September, the Season of Creation 2024 will begin with a global online prayer event, bringing together Christians from diverse traditions to pray for the wellbeing of creation. This year’s theme, "To hope and act with Creation," highlights the moral imperative for faith communities to take decisive action against the environmental crisis.

Observed from 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, this season invites the global Christian community to reflect on the importance of environmental stewardship grounded in faith. It is a time to deepen our spiritual connection with creation, advocate for climate justice, and commit to sustainable community practices.
