WCC congratulates new Evangelical Church in Germany president

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser today congratulated Berlin bishop Wolfgang Huber on his election as new president of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) Council. In his letter, Raiser said that the choice of Bishop Huber was a fortunate one for the WCC in view of the latter's long-standing commitment to the ecumenical movement. This commitment had been evident in his contribution to reflections on human rights questions, peace ethics and ecclesiology, Raiser said. The WCC general secretary wished Huber well as he "takes on his new role in a time of uncertainties, but also of growing expectations towards the churches".
