The World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Water Network is debuting a new monthly newsletter, “Together for Water,” to serve as a platform to exchange the success stories as well as the challenges of water justice for WCC member churches and all people who care about the human right to water.
The streams and themes of these Seven Weeks of Lent and of these Seven Weeks for Water flow together as Lent draws to its conclusion. The Seven Weeks of Water during Lent recall the final seven weeks of preparation for candidates for Christian Initiation in the early church, culminating in the waters of the baptismal pool and the bread and the cup of the eucharistic table at Easter.
Jesus uses water as an effective and surprising channel to demonstrate the central aspect of his vision for the disciples' ministry. According to John's gospel the Last Supper took place in an undisclosed and secret room, in order for Jesus to be alone with his disciples and loved ones. There were no slaves or helpers to break the bread or to pour the wine - just the gathered few.
The German Protestant aid agency Brot für die Welt has handed a steering wheel, symbol of its water campaign, over to the WCC, thus symbolically handing responsibility for this concern and a newly formed Ecumenical Water Network.
Die deutsche evangelische Hilfsaktion "Brot für die Welt" übergab das Symbol ihrer Wasserkampagne, ein Steuerrad, an den Ãkumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÃRK) und hat diesem und dem neuen Ãkumenischen Wassernetzwerk (EWN) damit symbolisch die Verantwortung für die Fortsetzung dieses Engagements übertragen.
