Los asociados ecuménicos en África, convocados por la Conferencia de Iglesias de Toda el África (AACC), el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), la Red Ecuménica de Defensa de las Personas Discapacitadas (EDAN), las Iniciativas Ecuménicas y Acción Mundial sobre el VIH/SIDA (EHAIA) del CMI, Christian Aid y el movimiento religioso a favor de la justicia de género Side by Side, se reunieron en Nairobi con motivo del Día Mundial de Oración 2020 para celebrar los logros de las mujeres en África, así como para reconocer a los hombres como aliados. La reunión también conmemoró el Día Internacional de la Mujer con el lema #EachforEqual (todos por la igualdad).

Während eines Solidaritätsbesuches in Kenia vom 10. bis 12. Oktober trafen sich Leitende des Zentralausschusses des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) mit kirchlichen Vertreterinnen und Vertretern aus Kenia und gaben ihre Unterstützung für die Kirchen in Kenia zum Ausdruck, die nach Frieden und Gerechtigkeit streben. Weiter vertieften sie ihre Vision für anstehende Anlässe des ÖRK, beispielsweise für die im März 2018 geplante Konferenz für Weltmission und Evangelisation.

During a solidarity visit in Kenya on 10-12 October, leaders from the World Council of Churches (WCC) Central Committee met with Kenyan church representatives, expressed their support for Kenyan churches working toward peace and justice, and deepened their vision for future WCC events, including the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism set for March 2018.

Durante una visita de solidaridad en Kenia que tuvo lugar del 10 al 12 de octubre, los líderes del Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) se reunieron con los representantes de las iglesias de Kenia, expresaron su apoyo a las iglesias de Kenia que trabajan por la paz y la justicia, y profundizaron en su visión para los próximos eventos del CMI, como la Conferencia sobre Misión Mundial y Evangelización prevista para el mes de marzo de 2018.

Au cours d’une visite de solidarité effectuée au Kenya du 10 au 12 octobre, les responsables du Comité central du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) ont rencontré des représentants des Églises kenyanes, et ont exprimé leur soutien à celles qui œuvraient pour la paix et la justice. Ils ont également étayé leur vision des événements du COE à venir, notamment concernant la Conférence mondiale sur la mission et l’évangélisation, prévue en mars 2018.

“Disability does not mean inability! Human rights for all! Equality and access to good health care! Leave no one behind!” Slogans were plentiful at the 18th International Conference on AIDS and STIs. Some participants felt that the conference venue sadly belied these clarion calls as it was ill-equipped to handle the mobility and access needs of persons with disabilities.

Representatives of ecumenical organizations meeting in advance of the 17th International AIDS Conference in Mexico City vowed to launch a global campaign to help churches become competent in dealing with the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Can religions do more in response to the AIDS pandemic? To address this question over 450 representatives of faith-based organizations currently responding to HIV and AIDS will gather in Mexico City, 31 July - 2 August, in advance of the XVII International AIDS Conference.

Every person living with HIV and AIDS should have access to the treatments made available by medical science and churches must advocate for this to happen, said the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee in a statement adopted at a meeting that ends today. The statement also challenges churches to a greater commitment in fighting the pandemic and welcoming positive people into their communities.

The global fund for tackling HIV and AIDS should be distributed through churches because they have the best access to the populations affected.

Dr Peter Piot, Bishop Mark Hanson, Canon Gideon Byamugisha, Rev. Rick Warren and his wife Kay, and Erik Sawyer are among speakers at ecumenical and interfaith pre-conferences taking place on the eve of the world's largest HIV/AIDS conference.

Churches need to build youth participation so that young people can

"I have learned to see everyone infected as a brother, a sister, a niece, a nephew - a close relative," said Samuel Kobia this afternoon in Bern. The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary was speaking at an ecumenical event for World AIDS Day held outside the Swiss parliament.

Two highlights at the next 17-20 February 2004 meeting of the World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will be an in-depth presentation of WCC work on HIV/AIDS, and the formal installation of the council's new general secretary, Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia. The committee will also review the progress of work to prepare the next WCC assembly, and consider actions on public issues.
