WCC key partners gather for bi-annual roundtable

Leaders of specialized ministries that collaborate with the World Council of Chruches (WCC) gathered online on 7 May with the WCC general secretary and members of his staff. The bi-annual meeting is an important step in shaping the vision and priorities of the WCC.

Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay commemorated the 160th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan with special greetings reflecting on the anniversary theme Dwelling in God`s Abundance.”  On 23 April 2025, Pillay preached during a service commemorating the anniversary.

Seven Weeks for Water 2025, week 4: Is the “Water Futures Market” the Future of Water?

The fourth reflection of the Seven Weeks for Water 2025 series of the WCC Ecumenical Water Network is jointly written by  Dinesh Suna and Prof. Susan  Smith. They reflect on the pressing issues surrounding water in the context of climate change,  especially the disastrous  recent wildfires in California. Ironically, in 2020 California had  introduced the water in the “futures market” as a tradable commodity like oil and gold.  They underscore, the importance of prioritizing water as a common good, and the ethical challenges surrounding water privatization.

Communication from the World Council of Churches (WCC) in 2024, through storytelling via many channels, fostered unity in unprecedented ways across the world. From the largest global prayer gathering, to 2.3 million engagements on social media, to large numbers of young visitors both in-person and online, WCC communications connected with more people, in more ways than ever.

Biodiversitätskonferenz COP16: Ethische Imperative, indigene Perspektiven – und die anstehende Arbeit

Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) hat an der 16. Konferenz der Vertragsparteien (COP16) des Übereinkommens der Vereinten Nationen über die biologische Vielfalt teilgenommen, die vom 21. Oktober bis 1. November in Cali, Kolumbien, stattgefunden hat. An der Konferenz, die unter der Überschrift „Peace with Nature“ (Frieden mit der Natur) stand, haben 23.000 Menschen aus 196 Ländern teilgenommen.

WCC celebrates courage, commitment of Right Livelihood award winners

Since 1980, the annual Right Livelihood award has highlighted individuals and organizations whose work promotes justice, peace, and sustainability for all, but might otherwise not receive the recognition they deserve. On 3 October, Right Livelihood announced four new laureates, continuing this tradition.
