WCC study supports financial choices in response to the climate crisis

Celebrating International Children's Day, the World Council of Churches (WCC) has released a research paper "Cooler Earth - Higher Benefits: Actions by those who care about children, climate and finance.” The publication gives suggestions of how churches and other organizations around the world can respond to the climate emergency through investment decisions which are crucial to protect children from global warming.

Study paper - "Converting Discipleship: Dissidence and Metanoia”

The study paper has been produced by the commission’s Working Group on Transforming Discipleship, which has been engaged since 2019 in a study process on the document “Arusha call to discipleship" in affirmation of the key place that discipleship holds across all levels of ecumenical work or denominational church work.

The paper "Converting Discipleship: Dissidence and Metanoia” aspires to move churches towards a transformation effected through discipleship. Addressing churches and communities locally, the document aims to inspire them to re-examine and finally re-shape their missional commitment.

Driven by God’s grace and a sense of duty

When Rev. Dr Antje Jackelén became its first female archbishop in 2014, a major milestone was reached in the history of the Church of Sweden. It took 850 years and 69 male predecessors to get there. Jackelén also happens to be the first immigrant, at least in modern times, to occupy the highest chair of her church. That, however, she regards as a coincidence of lesser significance. For her, as a devoted Christian, the baptism matters more than the passport.

Morning Prayer for Wednesday, 28 October 2020

Welcome to morning prayer. In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle, we pray this week with the people and churches of Canada and the United States of America. This week many of our traditions also commemorate Reformation Day.

In a time of physical distancing, this order of prayer based by the Lutheran World Federation for Reformation Day focuses on baptism, which reconciles us to God and all creation. By water and Word, the one Spirit unites us through time and space into one body of Christ, and enlightens us with one hope to live our vocation in trust and courage.

Research & Coordination: Frederique Seidel
Research assistant: Virág Kinga Mezei

This toolkit provides resources for churches, church-run schools, and summer camps to support intergenerational climate and environmental justice and promote care for children by stopping further global warming. All churches are encouraged to promote education and action to address climate change, reduce CO2 emissions, and protect the environment in their activities for and with children and youth.
