WCC central committee to convene in-person for first time since 2018

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee will convene in-person from 15-18 June at the Ecumenical Center in Geneva for the first time since 2018. While solemnly acknowledging the grave crises facing the world, the WCC governing body will also bring a spirit of joyful gathering as preparations for the WCC 11th Assembly continue.  The executive committee will gather the day before on 14 June in Geneva.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has, since the first day of the war in Ukraine and even in the months before, been working and praying earnestly for peace in this conflict and throughout the world. From the beginning, the WCC has called for an immediate end to armed hostilities, to stop the war and has appealed also for an immediate end to indiscriminate attacks with an escalating impact on civilians in Ukraine. WCC shares overview of June central committee meeting

With 124 of 155 central committee members and presidents from around the world present, the WCC central committee convened to advance preparations for the 11th WCC Assembly, taking place in 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany under the theme Christs love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.” The central committee also addressed membership matters and strengthened the WCC fellowship through prayer and sharing. 

Welcome to the closing press conference for WCC central committee meeting

The World Council of Churches (WCC) invites accredited media to the online closing press conference on 29 June, to be held directly after the closing session, which is expected to end at 515pm CET, at the earliest. The exact time for the press conference is dependent on the duration of the closing session and will be communicated 15 minutes in advance. Accredited media are welcome to join the WCC Communications team in the online WCC press room from 5 pm CET.
