WCC Faith and Order Commission completes meeting in China

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Faith and Order Commission completed its meeting, held 12-19 June, in Nanjing, China, the third major WCC meeting held in China over the last three years. In Greenland, travel by either air or boat is the conventional – and only – way of getting from place to place. The distances between populated areas scattered along the rugged coastline of the world’s largest island are long and there are no roads connecting cities and settlements. Neither railways nor inland waterways exist and some rural areas can only be reached by helicopter. In winter, dog-sled is an alternative, particularly in the north and east.

JWG Executive, 6-8 May 2019, Warsaw, Poland; Communique

The Executive Committee of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between the World Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church met in Warsaw, Poland, from 6 to 8 May 2019 under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan Nifon of Târgoviște (Romanian Orthodox Church) and His Excellency Diarmuid Martin, Catholic Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland. Meeting at the Retreat Center of the Disciples of the Divine Master, the group had an excellent opportunity to learn about the ecclesial and ecumenical situation in Poland. Time was given to sharing about recent activities and ongoing cooperation between the Catholic Church and the WCC.

(LWF Communication) – An ecumenical prayer service in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, United States, marked the opening of a four-day consultation of five Christian World Communions discussing the historic importance of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (JDDJ) and its impact on the search for full, visible unity of the church.
