Fr Ioan Sauca: “God is on the side of those who are suffering”

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has, since the first day of the war in Ukraine and even in the months before, been working and praying earnestly for peace in this conflict and throughout the world. From the beginning, the WCC has called for an immediate end to armed hostilities, to stop the war and has appealed also for an immediate end to indiscriminate attacks with an escalating impact on civilians in Ukraine. WCC News met online with the WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca to get the latest update on the work of the WCC.

The Ecumenical International Youth Day| Transforming Education

This year, the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), in partnership with the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), will observe together the International Youth Day (IYD) with the theme: “Transforming Education.” Youth are the future of the church, and they are great advocates for Christian unity. The WCC wants to empower young Christians to liven up the ecumenical movement.

Christian communicators shine at Global Media Forum

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) was featured in the DW Global Media Forum held 27-28 May in Bonn, Germany. More than 2,000 media professionals, policymakers, and movers from politics and civil society, culture and education, business and science – representing 140 countries – attended the conference.

Mediterranean Hope: “On land, at sea and In the skies…”

The Federation of Protestant Churches in Italy (FCEI) and others involved in support for migrants on land, at sea and in the skies are strengthening their collaboration.

Freiburger Filmfestival würdigt Filme, die Menschenwürde thematisieren

Die Ökumenische Jury des 32. Internationalen Filmfestivals Freiburg (Schweiz), das vom 16. bis 24. März stattfand, hat seinen Preis dem Film „Foxtrot“ des israelischen Regisseurs Samuel Maoz verliehen. Der Film schildert, wie real und omnipräsent Gewalt und Tod in der israelischen und palästinensischen Gesellschaft aufgrund des israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikts immer noch sind. Auch den Don Quijote-Preis des internationalen Filmclubs (FICC) hat der Film bereits gewonnen.
