Water Justice is integral to Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, by Dr Agnes Abuom

Recently during the PJP harvest gathering meeting of WCC, at a workshop on revisiting the Seven Weeks for Water – Lenten campaign of the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network, Dr Agnes Abuom was asked to reflect on the linkage between the WCC’s water justice campaign and the WCC’s overarching theme of Pilgrimage of  Justice and Peace? Having attended several PJP meetings and Lenten campaigns herself, she responded in a pre-recorded video message. The following is the transcript of her video message.

Welcome to the closing press conference for WCC central committee meeting

The World Council of Churches (WCC) invites accredited media to the online closing press conference on 29 June, to be held directly after the closing session, which is expected to end at 515pm CET, at the earliest. The exact time for the press conference is dependent on the duration of the closing session and will be communicated 15 minutes in advance. Accredited media are welcome to join the WCC Communications team in the online WCC press room from 5 pm CET.

Media invited to opening press conference for WCC central committee meeting

The World Council of Churches (WCC) invites accredited media to the online opening press conference on 24 June at 12:00-12.45 CET, during which WCC central committee moderator Dr Agnes Abuom and WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca will provide an orientation of the work of the central committee.

WCC central committee convenes to prepare for 11th Assembly

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee will convene via video conference from 23-29 June to prepare for the 11th WCC Assembly, taking place in 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany under the theme Christs love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.” The WCC governing body will also address business matters and strengthen the WCC fellowship through sharing and prayer. 

El imperativo de volver a los fundamentos ecuménicos

Entrevista con la Dra. Agnes Abuom, moderadora del Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), sobre la reunión del Comité Ejecutivo del CMI celebrada del 17 al 23 de mayo de 2021. Con un tono de esperanza para el futuro, el Comité Ejecutivo del CMI abordó las múltiples crisis mundiales mediante declaraciones, mensajes pastorales y llamados a la oración.

La transición a los programas y las oraciones en línea durante la COVID-19 ha supuesto un desafío tanto para el CMI como para el resto del mundo, estimó Abuom, imponiendo “una carga pesada” a todos los miembros de la familia ecuménica en estos momentos en que el CMI se prepara para su 11ª Asamblea en Karlsruhe (Alemania), que tendrá lugar el año que viene.

WCC expresses deep gratitude to Rev. Prof. Dr h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, for decades of service

In a video message, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee Dr Agnes Abuom bid goodbye and expressed deep appreciation to Rev. Prof. Dr h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, who is retiring as president of "Brot für die Welt" and "Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe" after leading the German charity for 20 years. Füllkrug-Weitzel is also a WCC Thursdays in Black ambassador.

Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, con motivo de su jubilación como presidenta de Pan para el Mundo (Brot für die Welt) y Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, tras haber estado al frente de la caridad alemana durante 20 años. Füllkrug-Weitzel también es embajadora de la campaña Jueves de negro.

The imperative to go back to the ecumenical basics

Dr Agnes Abuom, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, was asked about the WCC executive committee meeting held on 17-23 May 2021. The WCC executive committee set a tone of hope for the future while, at the same time, addressing multiple global crises with statements, pastoral messages, and calls for prayer.

The transition to online programming and prayers during COVID-19 has challenged the WCC, and the rest of the world, Abuom found, and said is a heavy burden” on all in the ecumenical family as the WCC prepares for its 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany next year.
