A liturgy developed by the World Council of Churches and Lutheran World Federation is available on World AIDS Day, 1 December, with the theme “Let Communities Lead!”

The World Council of Churches, with the support of UNAIDS, will host a webinar on World AIDS Day, 1 December, to launch two new tools aimed at invigorating HIV response by the faith sector.

An ecumenical prayer service on World AIDS Day, to be observed 1 December, will focus on the theme “Overcoming Inequalities With Justice and Love,” a special emphasis in the context of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from 25 November until 10 December.

More than 140 people met online in a spontaneous “Gathering in Grief” to mourn Rev. Phumzile Mabizela, who passed away the morning of on 5 July. The World Council of Churches (WCC) Executive Committee released a statement expressing unfaltering commitment to ending HIV and AIDS. “The HIV epidemic has been like no other,” the statement reads. "Over four decades, AIDS has caused tens of millions of deaths, devastated families and communities, and challenged scientists and doctors seeking an effective vaccine or cure.”
