Christians and Muslims call for mutual commitment to justice

WCC condemns attack on church in Iraq

The World Council of Churches general secretary, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has condemned the "criminal act of terror" Sunday in Baghdad, Iraq, when gunmen took hostages in the Sayidat al-Nejat Church. The death toll from the hostage standoff rose to some 58 people on Monday, including priests, women and children and Iraqi security forces who conducted a raid to end the siege.

Swiss president speaks with WCC general secretary during Oslo visit

The president of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, met the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit on Thursday 14 October during her state visit to Oslo, Norway. Tveit has been general secretary of the Geneva-based World Council of Churches (WCC) since January 2010 and is a minister in the Church of Norway. Tveit’s presence in Oslo at the invitation of the king of Norway provided him with an opportunity to greet the Swiss leader.
