Christians called to remember Armenian genocide

For Armenians around the world Easter Sunday 2011, 24 April, is also Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. For the first time since 1915 April 24 falls on Easter Sunday in the Armenian church calendar. "It is truly a meaningful coincidence, as the existence of the Armenian nation and people itself is a special sign of the power of the resurrection in a world of death," Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit said in a message released today.

Common Collaboration in Theological Education - Findings of the Birmingham process

From 6-9 April 2011 some 25 representatives of partner organizations in theological education, mission agencies, scholarship organizations and REOs met at Queens Foundation for a consultation on “International Partnership and Funding Strategies for Theological Education”, a joint international consultation hosted together by ETE/WCC and Queens Foundation for the sharing of information on challenges, priorities and collaboration needs in theological education.

Five general secretaries of international ecumenical organizations engaged in lively conversation with leaders of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) on Friday 8 April, the final day of the EKD Council’s visit to the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The general secretaries are heads of the ACT Alliance, the Conference of European Churches (CEC), the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and the World Council of Churches (WCC).

“We must avoid stereotypes,” said Rev. Dr Nikolaus Schneider, chair of the council that coordinates relations and activities within the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). Members of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) Council began a three-day visit at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva Wednesday afternoon by first meeting with the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and then later with the general secretaries of the Lutheran World Federation, World Communion of Reformed Churches, Conference of European Churches and ACT Alliance.

Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has sent condolences to the United Nations mourning the tragic loss of United Nations staff in Afghanistan in a violent response to the burning last month of a Muslim Koran in the state of Florida, United States.
