As part of this year's Season of Creation, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will co-host a high-level webinar on 10 September. This event will bring together faith leaders, government officials, and climate advocates to discuss the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT) and its role in securing a just energy transition.

In the opening event for the global Season of Creation, faith leaders from diverse Christian traditions gathered to reflect on the 2024 theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” focusing on humanity's relationship with nature and the urgent need for environmental justice.

From 19-30 August, 27 church and youth leaders from 23 countries gathered in Limuru, Kenya, for the 7th edition of the Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics, and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School). On 1 September, the Season of Creation 2024 will begin with a global online prayer event, bringing together Christians from diverse traditions to pray for the wellbeing of creation. This year’s theme, "To hope and act with Creation," highlights the moral imperative for faith communities to take decisive action against the environmental crisis.

A delegation from the World Council of Churches (WCC) attended the first United Nations Preparatory Committee (Prep Com) session for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) held in Addis Ababa 22-26 July. African interfaith leaders convening in Kigali, Rwanda issued a statement on 19 July calling for forgiving debts, implementing responsible lending and borrowing principles, mainstreaming risk sharing between creditors and debtors, and scaling up access to resources for development in affordable terms.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) participated in the sixth Annual Meeting of the Ecumenical and Francophone Society of Theology of Ecology (SOFTE) held at the Saint Hugues Spiritual Center in Biviers, France, from 2-5 July. Dr Louk Andrianos, WCC consultant on care for creation, sustainability, and climate justice, contributed virtually with a reflection on biodiversity, spirituality, and the need to redirect human greed towards oikocentrism.
