Building Interreligious Solidarity in Our Wounded World

The Way of Common Formation

An online conference, “The Future of Interfaith Dialogue,” held  7-8 December 2021, discussed principles for common formation as a vital element for the future of interfaith dialogue.

The purpose of this booklet is both to share some of the key insights and learnings from the conference and to prompt further interest in and discussion of common formation among a range of faith communities and interreligious organizations. Topics covered include; Transformational Formation: Five Fundamental Principles, Ten Practical Pointers for Initiatives of Common Formation, and a Directory of Groups and Organizations Offering Learning Opportunities in the Area of Common Formation.

Learning and hoping: peacemakers give and receive messages to the world

Messages of hope related to climate change and global conflicts from renowned global peacemakers have inspired young Christians, Jews, and Muslims at the Emerging Peacemakers Forum, held 5-14 July at the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Institute at Bossey. The young peacemakers have spent nearly 10 days crafting the next generation of peacebuilding.

The forum is organized in partnership between the Muslim Council of Elders, the WCC, and the Rose Castle Foundation.

Media invited to attend Emerging Peacemakers Forum graduation ceremony

Media are invited to attend the graduation ceremony of the Emerging Peacemakers Forum on 13 July in the Main Hall of the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The forum, organized in partnership between the Muslim Council of Elders, the World Council of Churches (WCC), and the Rose Castle Foundation, includes 50 young people from 24 countries.

Participants at the Emerging Peacemakers Forum send a message of hope to COP28

50 young people from 24 countries have sent a message of hope to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates at the end of 2023. The message was delivered during a special ceremony during the second edition of the Emerging Peacemakers Forum, held at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, Switzerland.

A mind blowing exposure for stewards during central committee

“There’s one thing I always say to young people when you start off in the stewards programme– be very careful, because the ecumenical bug gets you as this is a mind blowing exposure and you start to think about the church in a very different way – and this is not a bad thing", remarked World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay in his welcoming address to the young people from all over the world who were welcomed at the Ecumenical Centre on 16 June as stewards, in preparation for the upcoming central committee which is taking place 21-27 June in Geneva.

Accepting others in their otherness

Accepting others in their otherness is at the heart of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. This was the message at a tray lunch event titled “Christian Witness in a pluralistic world: Building on the Legacy of Asian Ecumenism,” held on 16 June at the Ecumenical Centre and organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC).
