World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay met with His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. The meeting marked a significant moment in strengthening the ties between the WCC and the Serbian Orthodox Church, focusing on the challenges facing the global Christian community and exploring ways to enhance inter-church cooperation.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Serbian Orthodox Church opened an exhibition titled, “World Council of Churches and the Serbian Orthodox Church (1948-1991): Exhibition of Archival Materials,” at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zemun, Serbia, on 3 September.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will visit WCC member churches in Serbia from 2-4 September. 

As the Conference of European Churches (CEC) convened in Novi Sad, Serbia for its 15th general assembly, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit conveyed a greeting on behalf of the WCC.

In the wake of recent crisis with the refugees in Europe, it is “absolutely and critically necessary that all European states take their proper responsibility in terms of reception and support for people seeking refuge, safety and a better future for themselves and their families. This cannot be left only to the states where they enter first,” says the WCC general secretary.
