During a visit with churches and communities in Bangladesh, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay met with religious leaders, participated in interfaith dialogues, and expressed solidarity for all those in Bangladesh coping with devastation from climate change. 

As World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay continued his visit in Bangladesh, on 12 April, he visited the National Council of Churches in Bangladesh offices in Dhaka, meeting with the general secretary Rev. David Das and staff members.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will visit Bangladesh from 10-14 April for meetings with churches, interfaith leaders, and faith-based organisations. He will also have a dialogue with theological teachers and students.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is mourning the loss of Bishop Barnabas D. Mondal, know for his support of theological education in South Asia, and for being the first national bishop and the former moderator of the Church of Bangladesh. He passed away on 29 June in Dhaka.

The WCC general secretary has expressed solidarity with Bangladesh, and concern over recent tragedies in the country, including the loss of over a thousand lives in a garment factory accident near Dhaka, as well as increasing attacks against religious minorities.
