On the 90th anniversary of the Barmen Declaration where members of Germany’s Confessing Church condemned Nazi incursions in church life, the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) has praised it for helping Christians since then combat oppression and injustice.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay is attending this year’s conference on ecumenism, mission, and development of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) taking place of 15-16 May near the German city of Erfurt.

Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, who is retiring as president of "Brot für die Welt" and "Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe" after leading the German charity for 20 years.
