Christian Aid acknowledged the work of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel during a special ceremony and high tea on 12 June at the Church House, Dean’s Yard. 

During a service of reflection on the 80th anniversary of Christian Aid, held at Westminster Abbey on 12 June, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay offered a sermon on “Hope: God’s Life-Line.”

Rev. Dr Susan Durber, World Council of Churches president from Europe, offered a sermon for a service on 7 June celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Welsh covenant between five church communities.

In a conversation held on 2 May that drew repeated applause from the large audience at Kirchentag in Hanover, Germany, Bishop Marianne Edgar Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, DC, and Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, moderator of the World Council of Churches central committee, reflected together on how churches, with courage and unity, can stand up for justice.

After more than two years of visioning and planning, the long-held dream of creating a dynamic, connected network for the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Institute at Bossey alumni and ecumenical partners became a reality.

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Frank Kopania for his appointment as the new head of the Department for Ecumenical Relations and Global Ministries for the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). 

Appearing on BBC One’s “Sunday Morning Live” TV show on 30 March, World Council of Churches senior programme lead for Children and Climate Frederique Seidel highlighted the WCC’s new resource, “Hope for Children Through Climate Justice: Legal Tools to Hold Financiers Accountable.”
