On February 5, shortly after Konrad Raiser’s 80th birthday, ecumenical experts from different generations, confessions and continents will meet in Geneva to discuss the newest publication by the former general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), titled The Challenge of Transformation: An Ecumenical Journey.

The Nigerian Patriarch His Holiness Pope Dr Rufus Okikiola Ositelu, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Church of The Lord (Prayer Fellowship) Worldwide is visiting Geneva and the WCC 29-30 January 2018. A public panel on "Christianity and human rights in multi-faith Nigeria", hosted by WCC, will take place 29 January at 14.00-15.30, at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The event is followed by a press briefing.

The Symposium will address cooperation among faith-based organizations, UN system entities, and other engaged regional and international non-governmental entities, and will focus on the intersections of these themes with human mobility, migration and displacement.

With application deadline 31 January, the WCC invites ecumenical youth to be stewards at the 2018 Central Committee in Geneva, Switzerland. The Stewards Programme aims to bring together a dynamic and diverse group of 20 young people from all over the world from 5-23 June 2018.

On 9 december, the World Council of Churches invites everyone to a prayer service for peace at the Trinity Church in Oslo, Norway, together with churches in Norway and representatives of ICAN, following the Nobel Peace Prize award 2017.

On 1 December 2017, the World Council of Churches invites to a full-day event at the Ecumencial Centre in Geneva, featuring a commemorative service, an interactive exhibition and a panel discussion on the lives and rights of children and adolescents living with HIV.

In a global campaign, the World Council of Churches invites people across the globe to extend “A Light of Peace” for the Korean Peninsula and for a world free from nuclear weapons.

Many WCC member churches and partner organizations have indicated that they either have experience in promoting meaningful participation of children/adolescents or would appreciate support in this area of the Churches' Commitments to Children. International Networking Conference "Faith-based Entrepreneurs: Stronger Together". The conference brings together Associations of Christian Entrepreneurs from all continents and backgrounds in order to learn from each other, connect to each other and explore and plan how to cooperate.

Organized by the World Council of Churches and the Canadian Council of Churches on 2-4 November, in Toronto, Canada, "Redesigning the Tree of Life" is intended as a participatory learning conference, informed by expert presentations, with time to build relationships and shared learning that make future shared work possible.

On Monday, 18 September at 10:30, an exhibition of hope for justice and peace in the Holy Land will open at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva.

The "Hearing on Racism, Discrimination, Afrophobia and Xenophobia: The experience of people of African descent in the USA" is organized by the World Council of Churches, together with the National Council of The Churches of Christ in the USA. It will be an opportunity to learn about the racial discrimination, xenophobia and afrophobia that people of African descent are experiencing in the USA, and acknowledge and reaffirm the role of faith communities as agents of transformative justice in the face of racial injustice.

Since its establishment, the World Council of Churches has supported health work of the churches globally, by supporting establishing and strengthening of Christian health associations at national and regional levels, global advocacy, and other initiatives. But there is currently lack of data on the contribution of the Christian family to global health. Through a workshop on 10-11 October 2017, the WCC aims to discuss and develop a framework for mapping such data.

Organized as part of World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, the WCC invites faith-based organizations, congregations as individuals to a 30 August public event entitled “Water and Faith: Building partnerships to achieve the SDGs”. On 16 June 2017, the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance in partnership with the Kenya chapter of the International Network of Religious Leaders Living with or personally affected by HIV and AIDS (INERELA+ Kenya), along with many other organizations, is coordinating an event to highlight country-led action backed by global support. Religious leaders and leaders of faith-based organizations will remind governments of their commitments agreed in the June 2016 United Nations’ Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS that there should be “special emphasis on providing 1.6 million children (0-14 years of age) with antiretroviral therapy by 2018.”

On Monday 5 June 2017, The WCC is calling on Christians worldwide to join in prayer for just peace in the Holy Land by taking part in a Pentecost prayer service.

More than 100'000 participants are expected at the Kirchentag festival organized by a Protestant lay movement in Germany. Among the 2500 events on the Kirchentag programme, many involve representatives of the WCC member churches and its leadership, including the moderator of the WCC Central Committee, Dr Agnes Abuom; WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit; the WCC president for Africa, Rev. Dr Mary-Anne Plaatjies van Huffel; and various members of the WCC Central Committee.
